You can ask for more support.

An exercise may be useful, and you may also want a person to talk with or practical help. Choose the option that fits your situation.

If you need support now

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency service.

Outside the United States

Find A Helpline lets you look for support by country and topic. Availability and ways to contact each service vary; check the service’s own listing.

If contact or a relationship feels unsafe

Threats, coercion, unwanted monitoring or fear about someone’s reaction call for support specific to your circumstances. A general contact plan cannot assess your safety.

The U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline offers advocate support and information about options. Its safety-planning guidance considers situations where leaving, blocking someone or confronting them may have consequences.

If someone may monitor your device, consider a device they cannot access. Closing a page does not erase browser history.

Finding ongoing help

If distress is persistent, difficult to manage, or affecting sleep, work or daily life, a qualified professional can help you consider what is happening and what support may fit. A primary care clinician can also be a starting point.

NIMH’s guide to finding help explains options in the United States. Elsewhere, look for a licensed provider or public health service where you live. Ask about costs, privacy, relevant experience and what to expect before starting.

Everyday support counts, too.

You might ask someone you trust for a specific kind of help: a walk, company while you handle a practical task, or a listening ear without advice. You decide what to share.
